And let's not forget about the kale, the nutrient powerhouse that adds a vibrant green color and a wealth of health benefits.

Packed with vitamins A, C, and K, as well as calcium, iron, and fiber, kale is an excellent addition to any smoothie. So, get your blender ready and let's dive into this Citrus Kale and Coconut Water Smoothie recipe that will leave you feeling refreshed and nourished.

Health Benefits of Citrus Kale and Coconut Water Smoothie

Ok so the smoothie is delicious, but did you know it's also totally nutritious? Let's take a look at some of the wonderful healthy aspects of this smoothie.

Kale. This leafy green vegetable is an excellent source of fiber, vitamins A, C, and K, as well as calcium. (I like to grow this in my garden so I always have some! )

Coconut water. Get your electrolytes such as potassium, magnesium, and calcium in with simple and satisfying coconut water. Even if you're not a fan of coconut water, it doesn't taste that strong.

Orange. This citrus fruit is a rich source of vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that helps to support a healthy immune system and promote skin health. You could use 100% orange juice for this but you'd have to sub some of the coconut water and then you may be making a completely different smoothie.

Pineapple. This tropical fruit is an excellent source of vitamin C and manganese, which are essential for healthy bone development and wound healing. I like to buy mine frozen because I really don't like cutting pineapples!

Banana. Bananas add a nice bit of potassium to your diet and they taste super yummy too.

Chia seeds. Well, chia seeds are a super food. They mostly help me with my Omega 3's but they have a shlew of health benefits you can read about here!

In summary, the Citrus Kale and Coconut Water Smoothie is not only a tasty treat but also a nutrient-packed beverage that provides numerous health benefits. It's an easy and delicious way to add more vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to your diet and support a healthy lifestyle.

How To Make The Citrus Kale Smoothie

Step 1. Prep the ingredients. Wash the kale leaves and remove the stems. Peel the orange and banana and chop into chunks. Cut the pineapple into chunks as well.

Step 2. In a blender, combine the kale, coconut water, orange, pineapple, banana, and chia seeds. Blend until smooth and creamy. If the smoothie is too thick, you can add more coconut water to achieve your desired consistency.

Step 3. Serve and enjoy. Pour the smoothie into a glass and enjoy immediately. You can also garnish with some extra chia seeds, if desired.

    Tips:

    • Use frozen fruit to make the smoothie colder and thicker.
    • Experiment with different types of greens, such as spinach or Swiss chard.
    • To make the smoothie sweeter, you can add a few drops of honey or maple syrup.
    • If you don't have chia seeds, you can substitute with flax seeds or hemp seeds.

    Serving

The Citrus Kale and Coconut Water Smoothie is best enjoyed immediately after it is made. Pour the smoothie into a glass and drink it right away. You can also garnish it with some extra chia seeds, if desired.

    Storing Your Smoothie

If you have leftover smoothie, you can store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. However, the longer it sits, the more it will lose its freshness and nutritional value.

To help preserve the smoothie, you can store it in a mason jar with an airtight lid. This will help prevent air from getting in and causing the smoothie to oxidize and lose its nutrients. Shake the jar before drinking to remix the ingredients.

If you want to make a batch of smoothies to last several days, you can freeze them in ice cube trays and then store the cubes in a ziplock bag in the freezer for up to a month. This is a great option for meal prepping or for busy mornings when you don't have time to make a fresh smoothie.

To thaw the smoothie cubes, simply take them out of the freezer and let them sit at room temperature for a few minutes or microwave them for a few seconds. Then, blend the cubes with some fresh coconut water or your favorite milk to achieve your desired consistency.

The Citrus Kale and Coconut Water Smoothie is best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored for a short time in the refrigerator. Freezing the smoothie in ice cube trays is also an option for longer-term storage.
